In times like these
when nothing is longer shocking
than the president’s next tirade,
what more is there to write,
what more is there to speak of?
In such dire times as these
write more about love, it’s amazing, really
that love can exist,
in such dire times as these.
With
an
ear
to
the
ground
these
words
seem
futile,
consciousness
bludgeoned
by
the
American’s
perversion
of
freedom.
I
was
tired
angry
and
loony
for
love.
So
you
put
me
in
your
pocket.
While
Meatloaf
sang –
I
bet
you
do
that
to all
the
boys.
Staring
into
space —
born
is
another
babe —
daydreaming
alone.
Don’t let
loneliness
scare you.
Eat it.
Drink it.
Consume it.
Take
it’s hand
and walk awhile.
Listen,
can you hear that?
I close my laptop.
Turn off the television.
And check the time.
I will read for twenty minutes.
I don’t make it past the acknowledgements
before
I open my laptop.
Elizabeth says I’m happier on the West Coast.
So if her observations are to be correct
I must, at least for the sake of argument
test its soil
drink its water
and observe its stars

before settling for the East Coast.
Having smelled
a great number of motel
and hotel pools
chlorine became a staple
of my youth,
so now,
to balance the equation
like higher education
I will indulge
the scent
of natures stream.
I
waste
too much
time
so
it’s time
I let

waste
me.
I’ve never seen a waterfall.
Well, I have, just nothing memorable.
I’ve never walked through desert.
Well, I have, but that was a Vegas vacation.
I’ve never seen a bear.
Well, I have, but that was on Nat-Geo.
I’ve never seen you smile,
like when you’re in the wild.
And that is reason enough.
