In a deep hot
Summer night
I was nobodies fool
Playing poorly
My broken violin
For no ones ears
But my own
I wish I could have been
The air of reason
Forever calm
Before the storm
Instead of becoming
Those howling winds
Those howling winds
You knew before
But having been
Picked over plenty
Like a jukebox full
Of another’s score
And though I never
Sought to reign
Like Aprils Fool
I seem to pour
Don’t fool yourself
you’re nobodies fool
you couldn’t fool me
I couldn’t fool you
around and around
this fool proof plan
was never intended
for women and men.
Don’t fool yourself
I’m always listening
like a cat cradling yarn
I can get tangled too
but understand this
I have not the time
nor patience, for hollow eyes
or condescending felines,
who’ve been cute in their foolery
though you sir, are not
so as I walk away, I thank you
for your time, believe it or not
I’ve been listening my whole life,
and you’re a tangled mess
that I refuse to fool myself into believing otherwise.
