On a hot summer night.

I
was
tired
angry
and
loony
for
love.
So
you
put
me
in
your
pocket.
While
Meatloaf
sang –
I
bet
you
do
that
to all
the
boys.

Reason #1 for Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail

I close my laptop.
Turn off the television.
And check the time.
I will read for twenty minutes.
I don’t make it past the acknowledgements
before
I open my laptop.

Reason #2 for Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail

Elizabeth says I’m happier on the West Coast.
So if her observations are to be correct
I must, at least for the sake of argument
test its soil
drink its water
and observe its stars
2,668 miles from Campo to Manning Park
for 160 nights, give or take
before settling for the East Coast.

Reason #5 for Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail

Having smelled

a great number of motel
and hotel pools
chlorine became a staple
of my youth,
so now,
to balance the equation
like higher education
I will indulge
the scent
of natures stream.

Reason #6 for Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.

I
waste

too much
time

so
it’s time

I let
time

waste
me.

Reason #8 of Hiking for the Pacific Crest Trail

The lease is up.

The bed is broke.

The plan is made.

The bills are over paid.

It’s time.

Life is good.

Driving

through

the falling

Louisiana

Texas

Arizona

skies

and life

right now

is larger

than any

self

delusion

brought on

by sorrowful

routine,

life

right now

is good.

Little things.

Some days

it feels

like

nobody cares

and then

out of nowhere

a

friend

gifts you

a space pen,

and, “yes Jerry,”

it writes upside down.

Life awake.

Dream,

nobody is stopping

you

from dreaming,

just

remember

who

to blame

when

the dream dies

and

life

goes on,

like it always does.

Not so fiction.

Not

every

person

is meant

to

stay

in your life

forever,

but

that doesn’t mean

you can’t tell

their

story,

it doesn’t mean

they’re

not

a part of yours,

so be a dear

and change a name or two,

just don’t

spoil

the end —

they’ll know if you do.
