Walking in the desert of night

For once in this hell of a lifetime

I’m not calling anyone out—

Walking in the desert of night stars

With my own well being

I no longer glance behind—

Finally I realize there is nothing left behind

Nothing that isn’t worth looking forward to—

My soul is clean, my eyes are clear

I no longer cry for those I cannot save—

Saving myself, one step at a time.

to lose and to gain

We lose—only—what we must

allow ourselves to lose,

regardless of the pain

and suffering we choose, to lose

and to gain—

to have what it takes,

to further ourselves

to a better tomorrow.

A walk in the park

What looked like yesterday

out a kitchen window I saw

tomorrow and everyday

moving forward

as carefree as

a walk in the park.

What’s truly important

What’s truly important

is not what was

but what is, and

how you’re willing to thrive

within the moment.

If Hemingway was here today

If Hemingway

was here today

would he Instagram

his catch?

And dare you say

that Hemingway

was rotgut—

his defense?

Out on the bay

he’d fish and say

what pleasures

have a man?

His slow decay

here but a day

come then let’s see your stance!

Put up your dukes

and lace your boots,

a fight? No sir

let’s dance!
