In my neighborhood

Every muffler

Firework

SNAP-CRACKLE-POP

people assume is a gun shot.

I know why they imagine this

but I just can’t believe it myself, because

the men and women I see,

whose culture, features, religion

Love.

I’m never sure how my days will end

but I know how they all begin:

Dear friend,

and smog fills your lungs

In this life choose many lifestyles

In this life choose many lifestyles.

When one gets boring, flip the script.

Don’t pigeonhole yourself.

As many lifestyles as there are,

I’m curious to know more about you.

I’m all ears…

The world spins for you

When the world

seems, to be

spinning without you—

just listen

breathe and remember

the world spins for you,

as it does that perfect stranger

who too is listening.

Her morning meditation

Her silence is an offering

The morning sun’s a gift

Her morning meditation

I watch as my mind drifts

Our backyard is a symphony

The melody and pitch

Free from all temptation

Her presence does enrich

Digging

Keep digging through the pain

and at the bottom you’ll find

that what’s buried underneath

was worth your struggle.

Then just keep on digging.

Ordinary

He felt lost

and alone, though

ever so ordinary—

which scared him the most.
